Never give up. Today is hard, tomorrow will be worse, but the day after tomorrow will be sunshine.- Jack Ma
Just like the quote says, never give up anything you started.
I started posting income reports. Even though my blog was not performing well in terms of traffic and income, I did not give up.
I continued to post income reports, stating my low income too.
I did not feel insulted or broke down for this.
All, I believed is to continue my work and hope for good things to happen.
A year with a lot of memories passed and we are at the beginning of the new year.
When I wanted to take a look back at what I have crossed in the last 1 year, I wrote a year-round popular post. That post helped me to understand my readers’ interest (none other than you).
Now, Its time for me to share some happy moments of December 2017.
Living in Chennai, which was little known for December Disasters for the past few years (I don’t want it to continue like that. So let it be December surprises) I had a surprise moment this year too.
Pocket Top 1% Reader for the 2nd consecutive year:
Let me unveil it.
I have been using the Pocket app for the past 2 years, to be exact ( around 1.5 years, I guess).
Last year, I was one among the top 1% readers of Pocket.
To a surprise that occurred one more time.
Yes, I got a mail from Pocket, that in 2017 also, I am one among the top 1% readers of Pocket.
Also, I got wishes from Pocket team on Twitter.
I would like to show you my stats.
I was surprised to know, I am stilling reading a lot of Blogging, SEO and Social Media Marketing posts, just like I was reading a year ago.
All I realized was, “My interest in Blogging has not dropped down“.
I want this to continue. I wanted to be one among the top 1% readers of Pocket on next year too.
Hope, I will make it.
Started reading Books:
I didn’t realize how it started, how the thought of reading books entered me.
All of a sudden, I started reading books.
It was the first non-academic / non-blogging related book, that I read in the last few years.
It was Chetan Bhagat’s Half-Girlfriend.
The book was so interesting, that I couldn’t stop reading it.
I finished reading the book in just 1 day. That was the time I realized, that I could read so much.
Earlier I just used to struggle to finish a 30-page unit in my academics.
That’s a new beginning, a new habit.
Soon, the interest did not stop.
I just completed one more book. It was again Chetan Bhagat’s one, 2 States – The Story of My Marriage.
Even this book did not take too much time for me to complete. Just 1.5 days.
Yes, I did it.
My Trip to Goa – Dandeli:
Not to finish up my December moments soon, I went on a trip to Goa and Dandeli.
It was a 5-day trip and I enjoyed it to the core.
For those 5 days, I completely forgot about Blogging, OnlineRockersHub, reading etc. I did not reply to any of my emails.
I just relaxed in the pleasant beaches of Goa, making fun with friends, trying out new dishes, fun activities like River rafting, Zipline, Burma Bridge, Kayaking, and even visited an island (Not sure, what was the name of that island. Couldn’t find the name board anywhere).
I am posting some clicks of my trip.
If you ever get a chance to visit Goa, don’t miss it. It’s a perfect place to relax.
Now, it’s time to take diversion (If I start talking about my trip, I will keep on) and get myself into Blogging.
Traffic Report for December 2017:
As usual, I will show you my Google Analytics report for this month alone. I will let you know about the annual stats later in this post.
The traffic looks better than the previous month. Also, the bounce rate got decreased, which means that my readers are interested in reading more than 1 post.
I will take this as positive
After looking at the traffic sources, it’s a little shock. Because I couldn’t see StumbleUpon anywhere on the list.
My site was receiving traffic from Stumbleupon, right from the day, I started it. Now, nothing.
I will have to check this, what stops my site from getting traffic from StumbleUpon.
And the traffic, mentioned as Elegant Themes comes from their support forum. I did purchase their membership, so they take care of some coding and theme edits of my site.
Also, organic sessions decreased by 250. It’s an early alarm for me to look into the SEO of my website. Everything else looks normal.
Income and Expense Report for December 2017:
I don’t run OnlineRockersHub, just for the sake of earning money. I always wanted to share my experience and add some value to my readers.
Anyway, let’s take a look at income and expense for this month.
- Flipkart: $27.41 (Approx ₹1750)
- Google Adsense: $1.86
- ShareASale: $1.5
- OpinionBureau Referral Program: $0.47 (₹30)
- Cuelinks: $0.15 (₹67)
- Media.net: $0.11
- FamilyClix Referral Program: $0.0645
Total Income: $31.57 (Approx ₹2,015.9)
I don’t spend much. That’s as usual, nothing new.
Looking at the income, affiliate sale at Flipkart was unexpected. It came from my Coupons and Deals site.
Just 1 sale and that made around ₹1750. This is not to brag, just to show the potential of affiliate marketing.
If you need to learn more tips and tricks on affiliate marketing, I would recommend this affiliate marketing eBook from Harsh Agrawal.
I learned some interesting tricks there. I guess you will also find it useful.
Last month, I informed you about my new strategy.
Setting Goals and working towards that.
Did I accomplish my goals for December?
Let me, recall, what were the goals?
Now, I did check those stats. Here are the results
- New Subscribers in SendInBlue: 34
- OnlineRockersHub Pageviews in December: 3363
I wasn’t able to make not more than 1 subscriber a day. This indicates that I will have to work more on collecting subscribers.
If you have any idea, what will satisfy my first-time visitors to subscribe? let me know.
And, coming to the second one, I fell short by 637 page views.
It wasn’t bad, I made my traffic grow. But, that wasn’t sufficient to reach my goal.
So, in the end, I failed to reach both my goals.
I am not giving up. I will let you know about the new goals later in this post. (Yes, I am doing it again)
In the meantime, I will cover up the annual statistics.
Annual Traffic Report 2017:
I will show you some screenshots of Google Analytics report.
Note: These reports consider only OnlineRockersHub domain and not their subdomains.
The traffic seems to be raising in the mid-months like June, July and then it dropped back.
Throughout the year, the traffic looks to be steady. It hasn’t grown big.
I don’t want the next year to be in the same way.
The traffic sources show that the organic traffic is still not up to the mark.I want the majority of my traffic to be from search engines.
The major social media platforms from where I get traffic are StumbleUpon, Twitter, Facebook, and Reddit.
Remaining everything looks good.
Annual Income and Expense Report 2017:
Let me move on to the yearly Income & Expense report.
Let me list down income based on each program.
- Sponsored Posts: $103.45
- Hostgator: $98.09 ( ₹6263.68)
- Flipkart: $27.41 (Approx ₹1750)
- Cuelinks: $24.36 (₹33)
- Google Adsense: $18.74
- ShareASale: $9.8
- GoDaddy: $6.04
- Namecheap: $5.14
- Facebook Audience Network: $3.22
- Clixsense Referral Program: $2.7090
- ShoutMeLoud eBook sales: $2.90
- FamilyClix Referral Program: $1.2735
- OpinionBureau: $0.94 (₹60)
- VCommission: $0.3 (₹36)
Total Income: $304.3725 (Approx ₹ 19,435.71)
If you sum up income from my monthly reports, it would be something different. It would sum up to $408.55
Yes, the difference is huge.
This is because I stopped using some programs in the middle of the year, USD to INR currency conversions and also I got some of my affiliate sales rejected.
Sometimes, the person who purchased the product would have returned it. In that case, your affiliate sales get rejected. You have no other go, you will have to accept it.
Apart from rejections, I noticed that majority of my income came from Sponsored posts. So, I would try to do more sponsored posts. If you would like to get one for your product, you can contact me (Terms and Conditions apply).
Let me get into the expense for this year.
- Domain Renewal: $12.89
- Namecheap Hosting renewal: $38.88
- Facebook ads: $0.63 (₹40)
- Elegant Themes Membership: $70 (₹45)
Total Expense: $122.4 (Approx ₹7,815.85)
As far as expense is considered, I believe, I made good investments so far. I took so much of care, before investing every time.
Facebook ads were just a new trial. Did not get any expected results. So, most probably, I would not spend much on ads again.
Instead, I could save some money, and focus on upgrading my servers.
Also, I have come up with a new rule for guest post submission.
Flesch Reading Ease Test:
When I went through guest post submissions for OnlineRockersHub, I realized that I could easily differentiate my post and another blogger’s post.
Though other blogger’s post has got good content, they aren’t written in an easily digestible format.
That means those posts would be little difficult for non-native English readers to follow up.
So, it makes the post a little difficult to get connected with the reader.
That’s why I have decided that all new guest posts should have a minimum score of 70 in Flesch Reading Ease Test.
Initially, I thought of keeping it as 75. Then, I realized, it might not be possible in all situations.
So, it is mandatory that all new guest post submission should get a score of minimum 70 in Flesch Reading Ease Test.
That’s not Rocket Science.
All you need to use is simple English.
If you couldn’t believe it, this post you are reading now has got a score of 79.7 in Flesch Test.
The updates are not over. They have just begun.
New Logo for OnlineRockersHub:
Recently, you could have noticed that I changed the color in OnlineRockersHub logo.
If you are a new reader, I would like to tell you, the previous one was in Dark Green.
Here is the full logo.
And, here is my favicon.
I felt I need this change. Because the color green mostly gets related to money (Considering in terms of Business. Else Green symbolized Nature),
Initially, when OnlineRockersHub was started, I used to write a lot of posts on making money online.
But, now, I have moved on to Blogging, WordPress and Social Media Marketing.
Since WordPress and major social media platforms have got Blue color, I felt it is necessary, to change the logo to Blue color.
Also, I would like to get your feedback on this new logo design.
Let me know in the comments section.
I started setting goals last month. Though I did not achieve it, I would like to continue this for the next month too.
Goals for January 2018:
I want to set some achievable goals and progress towards it.
1) Get 200 new backlinks:
Right now, my website has got 1258 backlinks. I checked it using the SEO backlink Tool Android app. By the end of this month, I would like to reach 1458 backlinks.
This is a little difficult task, but I believe, if I plan and work, I can achieve it.
2) Reach 4000 page views:
This was the same goal, which I had set last month. I want to try and achieve this month. I have set some plans to increase page views.
Let me try and see what happens.
And last but not the least,
Happy New Year 2018:
I wish you a very Happy New Year ?. Let this new year bring you joy and happiness in your life. Let all your dreams come true.
On this new year, let’s get rid of all evil thoughts from our mind. But, not to forget any lessons learned from the past.
Focus on working hard, and keep your loved ones happy.
My New Year Resolution:
On this new year, I would like to take a resolution and focus on following it throughout this year.
I want to satisfy my readers with good posts in 2018.
Also, all my new blog posts and reviews will be more than 2000 words.
It’s not tough, all I need to achieve this is patience, hard work, and some smart work.
I will do my best to keep up my new year resolution.
If you also took your resolution for this new year, let me know in this comments.
Happy New Year 2018!
